Orange County College Baseball : Fullerton Defeats San Jose State, 13-3, to Win PCAA Championship

Cal State Fullerton clinched its first Pacific Coast Athletic Assn. championship in three years Saturday as the Titans defeated San Jose State, 13-3, at Titan Field to gain a berth in the NCAA tournament.

The Titans (15-2, 38-14) will be making their 11th trip in 13 seasons to the postseason tournament.

Fullerton junior Mike Harkey (7-2) pitched his eighth complete game of the season, allowing 10 hits and one earned run.

The Titans, who had 15 hits, scored three runs in the first inning, four in the fifth and six in the seventh.

Senior Andy Mota hit a three-run home run for the Titans in the seventh inning, his second homer of the season, and sophomore Mark Razook added three hits and scored twice.

“I feel good about this title,” Fullerton Coach Augie Garrido said. “These kids did a good job and deserve the opportunity to go on to a regional championship and hopefully further.”

The Titans will finish the series against the Spartans (8-9, 31-23) at 1 p.m. today on Titan Field.

In other PCAA play:

UC Irvine 5, University of the Pacific 0--Gabby Rodriguez pitched his first shutout of the season as the Anteaters won at Stockton. Rodriguez (6-5) limited the Tigers to three hits, walking three and striking out eight.

Jeff Oberdank went 4 for 5, Doug Cline and Stacy Parker had two hits each and Gordon Staab hit his first home run of the year in the ninth inning for UCI (9-8, 23-26-1). Pacific is 6-11 and 18-31.
