Titans Receive a Top Seed, Will Play in New Orleans

Cal State Fullerton, which gained a berth in the NCAA Division I baseball tournament by winning the Pacific Coast Athletic Assn., will travel to New Orleans as the top-seeded team in the South II Regional.

The Titans (42-15) will play Southern University (30-20) in the opening round Thursday at 5:30 p.m.

In other first-round South II Regional games: No. 3-seeded Louisiana State (43-17) plays No. 4 Tulane at 10 a.m., and No. 2 New Orleans (41-17) plays Louisiana Tech (42-12) at 2 p.m. All games will be played at Privateer Park on the campus of the the University of New Orleans.

Fullerton, which won its 12th PCAA title in the last 14 seasons, won regionals in 1975, 1979, 1982 and 1984 and won the College World Series in 1979 and 1984. The Titans have been in the playoffs 11 times in the last 13 seasons, but their last appearance was in 1984.

The winners of the eight regionals meet in the College World Series, which begins May 29 in Omaha.
