Notre Dame, Canyon Eliminated From 2-A Softball Playoffs
Notre Dame High and Canyon were eliminated Friday in quarterfinal games of the Southern Section 2-A softball playoffs.
Notre Dame (18-7), making its first postseason appearance, lost to Corona, 3-1, in a game at Van Nuys-Sherman Oaks Park.
Corona had six hits and a pair of earned runs against freshman pitcher Becca Berline (17-6) and benefited from two Notre Dame errors in a two-run third inning. Notre Dame scored its only run in the fourth when Lisa Frietas singled, went to third on a double by Trina Koenig and scored on a two-out single by Julie Feezor.
In Irvine, Tifany Boyd struck out 17 and Woodbridge scored two unearned runs on a throwing error to defeat Canyon, 2-0.
Boyd’s effort overshadowed the performance of pitcher Toni Gutierrez, who struck out eight for Canyon (14-9).
