Tom Redington, Esperanza High School shortstop, and Bret Boone, El Dorado second baseman, will lead the North in the 20th Orange County All-Star baseball game at 7:30 tonight in Anaheim’s Glover Stadium.

Redington was named the most valuable player in the California All-Star baseball series in San Diego last weekend. He was recently drafted in the second round by the Atlanta Braves and has been reportedly offered a $100,000 signing package.

Redington led Esperanza into the Southern Section’s 4-A division championship game for the second straight year. He hit .366 with 9 home runs and 30 RBIs and has signed a national letter of intent with the University of Arizona.

Boone, son of Angel catcher Bob Boone, has been drafted by the Minnesota Twins but has declined a professional contract and said he would play at USC next fall. He hit .500 with 10 homers and 31 RBIs.

North Coach Mike Curran of Esperanza will start Chris Robinson of Troy. Robinson had a 14-2 record to lead the Warriors to the 3-A division title. He won four of five playoff games and will attend Cal State Fullerton in the fall.

South Coach Dave Demarest will start left-hander Jon Willard (8-3) of Laguna Hills. The South features three Ocean View standouts who have signed with Division I schools--David Holdridge (USC), Mike Fyhrie (UCLA) and Eric Christopherson (San Diego State).
