Share

Seven recreation centers in Wilmington, Harbor City, Harbor Gateway and San Pedro have received money from the Amateur Athletic Foundation for youth and adult sports programs.

The foundation, which distributes profits from the 1984 Summer Olympics, has provided $86,000 to the Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks for the sports programs which involve five Olympic sports: bicycling, canoeing, gymnastics, karate and team handball.

City officials estimate that 3,500 people will participate in the activities, which will be held at Banning, Harbor Regional, Normandale, Peck, Rancho San Pedro, San Pedro and Wilmington recreation centers. Residents interested in the programs should call the Department of Recreation and Parks at 548-7598.
