For the second day in a row, southern Los Angeles County was jolted by a small earthquake. The temblor, measuring 3.8 on the Richter scale, was centered two miles southeast of San Pedro. There were no reports of damage or injury, but police received dozens of calls from worried residents. A spokeswoman at Caltech’s seismological lab in Pasadena said the temblor and the earlier quake, which measured 3.4 and was centered two miles southeast of Compton, were apparently unrelated.
