Glendale’s Trey Pogue pitched a complete game and drove home two runs to spark an 8-2 victory over Glendale in the opening round of the Area 6 American Legion playoffs Thursday at Moorpark College.
Pogue scattered 10 hits and was aided by two double plays to advance Glendale (19-8) in the six-team double-elimination tournament. Glendale plays West Covina in today’s second round at 1 p.m. at Moorpark. Camarillo (20-8) plays Van Nuys-Notre Dame at 9:30 a.m.
Camarillo started quickly when Darren Romano belted a 400-foot home run that scored Ryan McMullen ahead of him for a 2-0 lead. Romano finished with two hits and McMullen, son of former Dodger Jim McMullen, had three hits.
But Camarillo starter Scott Bush (4-3) lasted only two innings, allowing seven runs (five earned) on six hits and two walks. Reliever Mike Morgan allowed one unearned run on four hits in five innings.
