Chris Box scored two touchdowns and made five tackles in a nine-play span in the third quarter Friday to lead Clairemont High School to a come-from-behind 31-13 victory over Hoover at Clairemont.

Box, playing fullback, scored on a 30-yard run with 10:25 left in the third quarter and, 2:02 later, playing linebacker, recovered a fumble and ran 15 yards for another score.

That gave Clairemont--which trailed at halftime, 13-10--a 24-13 lead.

Clairemont took the second-half kickoff and drove 66 yards in three plays to take a 17-13 lead. Box had runs of 13 and 30 yards, the latter for his first touchdown.

On Hoover’s next two plays, Box made solo tackles for losses of two yards each. On the third play, Hoover quarterback Stacy Domaille fumbled and Box scooped it up on the 15 and scored.

In Hoover’s next series, Box made tackles on three straight plays, forcing Hoover to punt. Hoover had only three first downs in the second half.

Box gained 111 yards on 12 carries. Clairemont quarterback Lamont Jackson completed 5 of 11 passes for 129 yards and rushed for 69 yards in 8 carries. Jackson’s main target was Ray McDavid, who caught 3 passes for 122 yards. His 39-yard catch in the second quarter set up a 4-yard touchdown run by Cercy Moore and his 45-yard catch in the third quarter set up a 1-yard touchdown run by Jackson.

Hoover receiver Darrell Jamison caught 3 passes for 107 yards, including a 33-yard touchdown catch.
