ORANGE COUNTY PREP FOOTBALL : Roundup : Cheatham Again Leads Rancho Alamitos to Rout, 60-0

Senior fullback Sean Cheatham scored five touchdowns Thursday night to lead Rancho Alamitos High School to a 60-0 victory over Savanna in a nonleague football game in Anaheim’s Glover Stadium.

Cheatham, who scored all 30 of his team’s points in its shutout victory over Buena Park last week, finished with 184 yards rushing on 18 carries. He scored on runs of 40, 34, 22 and 7 yards.

He also returned six punts for 131 yards, including a 58-yard return for a touchdown in the third quarter to give Rancho Alamitos a 47-0 lead. In addition, he ran in a pair of two-point conversions to give him 34 points and 315 yards in total offense.

Rancho Alamitos (2-0), which has just 24 players on the roster, also had three touchdowns from Charles Panusis, who caught scoring passes of 40 and 21 yards from quarterback Charles McCall and a fourth-quarter halfback option from Baron Lizares for 52 yards.

“I really wanted to sub, but we really don’t have a third team,” said Rancho Alamitos Coach Mark Miller, who is in his first year.

Rancho Alamitos’ David Singletary rushed for 160 yards in 8 attempts and scored on a 60-yard run in the second quarter.

Savanna (0-2) was held to 40 net yards and 3 first downs.

Savanna got to the Rancho Alamitos eight-yard line after Artis Williams returned a kickoff 78 yards in the third quarter, but a fumble two plays later ended the threat.

Whittier 20, Garden Grove 7--Whittier quarterback Mike Fox threw for 334 yards and had 2 touchdown passes as the Cardinals defeated the Argonauts at Garden Grove High School.

The Cardinals (1-1) gained 410 yards of total offense and held Garden Grove (1-1) to 48 yards.

Garden Grove trailed, 8-0, at the half, and Whittier scored twice in the second half.
