Sparked by two touchdown passes by senior quarterback John Barnes, Trabuco Hills scored a 14-12 come-from-behind victory over Dana Hills at Mission Viejo High School Friday night.

The Dolphins took the lead in the first quarter when senior running back Jason Burden scored from nine yards out. The extra point kick was wide.

Trabuco Hills’ tying touchdown was set up by a roughing-the-kicker penalty against Dana Hills. Barnes capped the ensuing 70-yard drive with a 19-yard touchdown pass to Tim Manning. Matt Davis’ kick was good, giving the Mustangs a 7-6 lead.

Trabuco Hills (2-0) added a second touchdown in the fourth quarter after a 47-yard drive. Barnes hit tight end Mark Barnes with an 11-yard touchdown pass, and Davis added the extra point to increase the lead to 14-6.

After the kickoff, Dana Hills scored on its first play from scrimmage when senior quarterback Donny Mcintyre teamed with wide receiver Willie Philbin for a 72-yard pass play. Mcintyre’s attempt to tie the score with a two-point conversion run failed.

Dana Hills (1-1) had a chance to win the game after recovering a Trabuco Hills fumble on the Mustangs’ 30-yard line with 8:39 remaining. Dolphin running back Burden carried the ball 17 yards to the Trabuco Hills’ 13.

Burden then carried the ball into the end zone but the touchdown was nullified by a holding penalty. After a pass incompletion, Mustang linebacker Matt Davis intercepted a Dana Hills pass to kill the drive.
