Dana Hills High School’s tough defense led the Dolphins to a 10-0 victory over Santa Ana Valley in a nonleague football game in front 1,350 Friday at Dana Hills.

The big play was a fourth-quarter pass interception by Dana Hills defensive back Craig Lombardi on his own one-yard line.

Santa Ana (1-3) had driven the ball to the 17, its best position of the game, before the interception.

“Our defense was the key for us,” said Dana Hills Coach Don Douglass. “Santa Ana Valley played us really tough. Lombardi’s interception stopped a touchdown.”

Running back Jason Burden led Dana Hills (3-1) with 89 yards in 26 carries. Quarterback Donny Macintyre picked up 58 yards in 8 carries. He completed 4 of 6 passes for 36 yards. Macintyre also had an interception on defense.

After a scoreless first half, Dana Hills scored its touchdown with 9:22 left in the third quarter on a 37-yard reverse by flanker Zack Hickman from Macintyre. The touchdown capped a six-play drive.

Hickman kicked the extra point to give Dana Hills a 7-0 lead.

Hickman added a 20-yard field goal with seven seconds left.
