Grossmont High School’s football team was limited to 69 yards in eight possessions as El Modena wore down the Foothiller defense for a 20-6 nonleague victory at Valley Stadium Saturday night.

It was the Grossmont defense that scored the Foothillers’ only points. Defensive lineman Dale Crogan wrestled the ball from running back John Sharpe and ran 33 yards for a touchdown midway through the fourth quarter.

Since Grossmont’s offense seemed unable to move the ball during the game, Coach Judd Hulbert let his defense try for a two-point conversion, but an attempt failed.

“When you have to move one player, then you have to move another, it’s a ripple effect,” Hulbert said.

Grossmont (1-4) had trouble stopping El Modena running back Pat La Borio, who had 94 yards rushing and 5 catches for 54 yards and a touchdown.

El Modena (3-2) scored on a 6-yard touchdown pass from Blake Flinn to La Borio and a 35-yard field goal by Tim Hatcher to take a 10-0 lead at the half. El Modena led 20-0 on a 20-yard touchdown run by Sharpe and a 30-yard field goal by Hatcher.
