University of North Carolina basketball star J.R. Reid and teammate Steve Bucknall have been issued criminal summonses for their alleged roles in an assault in a Raleigh, N.C., nightclub.
Reid, a 6-foot 9-inch, 250-pound sophomore, and Bucknall, a 6-6, 210-pound junior, were served summonses Sunday that allege simple assault and battery on Paul James Doharty, a 21-year-old student at North Carolina State.
The players are to appear in Wake County District Court Nov. 16.
Reid, from Virginia Beach, Va., was the Atlantic Coast Conference Rookie of the Year last season, averaging 14.7 points and 7.4 rebounds.
