Valley Falls to Rio Hondo in Water Polo
Rio Hondo avenged a previous loss by defeating visiting Valley College, 11-8, in water polo Friday and moved into a tie for first place with the Monarchs in the Southern California Conference.
Valley (11-9, 4-2) trailed, 3-2, at the half, but Rio Hondo outscored the Monarchs, 4-2, in the third quarter to pull away in the regular-season finale for both teams.
Jose Gonzalez led Rio Hondo with four goals and John Marshall scored three goals for Valley.
Both teams will participate in the the Southern California Conference tournament next week at Rio Hondo, with the winner advancing to the Southern California playoffs Nov. 13 in Long Beach.
“Our shooting was way off today and we weren’t on top of our game,” said Valley Coach Bill Krauss.
