Boys’ Roundup : Goff Scores 38 to Lead Magnolia Past Villa Park

Mike Goff scored 38 points and had 15 rebounds to lead Magnolia High School to a 61-58 victory over Villa Park in a nonleague boys’ basketball game at Magnolia Friday.

The Sentinels (1-1) were down by 14 points with 13 minutes remaining, but with 36 seconds remaining, rallied to take an eight-point lead.

Jayson Nester scored three three-point shots in the fourth quarter to help Magnolia.

Villa Park made two three-point shots in the final 20 seconds but could not regain its lead. Steve Waldrip led the Spartans (0-1) with 15 points.

In other nonleague games:

Anaheim 53, Santiago 50--Leroy Fellows scored 19 points and Richard Takaoka scored 14 for the Cavaliers (0-2) in a losing effort at Santiago. Anaheim led, 19-10, at halftime, but Takaoka and Fellows each scored 11 points to cut Anaheim’s lead to four.

Nogales 75, Canyon 60--Ralph Pacheco scored 21 points for Canyon, which fell behind, 23-11, at the end of the first quarter and 46-25 at the half.

Foothill 80, Los Amigos 51--Foothill opened a 13-0 lead and led 21-10 at the end of the first quarter in the season opener for both teams at Los Amigos. J.J. Jenkins scored 15 for Los Amigos.

Savanna 67, Buena Park 54--Eric Shinkle scored 21 points and had 9 rebounds to lead the Rebels at home. Richard Kimple had 13 points and 9 assists to help Savanna (2-0). Kevin Graddy had 24 points to lead the Coyotes (1-1).

In the Cerritos Gahr Tournament:

Long Beach Millikan 51, Sunny Hills 48--The Aztecs led, 29-28, at the half, and led 48-47, with a minute remaining in the third-round game at Cerritos High School. Frankie Edwards, a 6-foot 10-inch forward, scored four points in the final minute for Long Beach Millikan. Chris Drakos and Jeff White each scored 11 points to lead Sunny Hills (2-1).

In the Orange Lutheran Tournament:

Southern California Christian 57, Providence 44--Ed Felton scored 17, Shawn Wilshire 12 and Jason Parks 15 to lead Southern California Christian (1-1).

Southern California Christian plays Orange at 4:30 p.m. today in the consolation championship.

In other Orange Lutheran Tournament games:

Orange 70, Newport Christian 53--Rod Matthew scored 23 points and Mike France scored 16 for Orange. Tom Gunsemi added 10 for Orange (1-1).

Wayne Everett scored 25 and Jeremy Clark 13 for Newport Christian (0-2).

Orange Lutheran 73, Mary Star of the Sea 53--Geoff MacArthur led the Lancers with 23 points, followed by Jason Neben with 22. Mary Star of the Sea was led by Dewey Dominguez and Marin Katacic, both with 16 points, and Richard Negrete with 13 points.

Trabuco Hills 80, Chaminade 62--Rick Swanwick led Trabuco Hills with 21 points. Teammates Teddy Colburn added 14 points and Tim Manning scored 13.
