Tennis Players Set for Rancho Bernardo

Pancho Gonzalez and Sally Huss, a Wimbledon semifinalist, will be among those competing in the Converse Grand Prix Masters tennis tournament at the Rancho Bernardo Inn Wednesday through Sunday. There is no admission charge.

Gonzalez, of Las Vegas, will team with Bill Davis of Rancho Mirage in the Men’s 55 doubles and Huss is the favorite in the women’s 45 singles.

The top eight singles and top four doubles teams on the Grand Prix circuit will compete in men’s and women’s age-groups. The groups range from 35 to 75 in singles and 35 to 65 in doubles.

The Masters Championships, sanctioned by the Southern California Tennis Assn., offers $7,350 in prize money.

A seminar on how to locate a college tennis scholarship will be held tonight at 7 in the Morley Field Clubhouse at the Folsom Tennis Center. The seminar is sponsored by the Southern California Tennis Assn., and there is no admission charge.

The seminar will offer information on schools across the nation that offer scholarships and how to best seek a tennis scholarship.

RUNNING

Sylvia Mosqueda of Cal State Los Angeles, the runner-up among women in the 1986 Los Angeles Marathon, said Monday she will run in Saturday’s Holiday Bowl Channel 10 Marathon in San Diego. Mosqueda, 21, won the NCAA Division II cross-country championship in November.

OUTDOORS

The San Diego Chapter of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation will hold its first banquet and auction at the Abbey Restaurant in downtown San Diego Friday at 6 p.m. The foundation is an international nonprofit wildlife organization dedicated to conservation of the elk and its habitat in North America. The auction includes original art work, woodcarvings and limited edition wildlife prints.
