Girls’ Basketball : Davidson’s Layup Lifts Esperanza to Victory

Karin Davidson scored a game-winning layup with 20 seconds remaining to boost Esperanza High School over Foothill, 43-42, in a second-round game of the Brea-Olinda girls’ basketball tournament at Brea-Olinda High School Wednesday.

Davidson also led the Aztecs (3-1) in points (19) and rebounds (12).

The Knights (2-2) were led by Tanya Foxe (14 points) and Ashley Selman (11 points, 6 steals, 6 assists).

Esperanza will play Brea-Olinda in a semifinal game Friday at 6 p.m.

In other the Brea-Olinda Tournament:

Brea-Olinda 75, La Habra 38--Aimee McDaniel scored 27 points to lead the Wildcats (6-0) in a second-round game at home.

Susan Tousey scored 20 points and added 12 rebounds in three quarters to help Brea.

La Habra was led by Robin Seabrook with 18 points.

In the Artesia Tournament:

Mater Dei 56, Fremont 45--The Monarchs had a 40-29 lead going into the fourth quarter, but Fremont cut the deficit to two points with three minutes remaining before finally losing at Artesia High School.

Claudia Morris (19 points) and Kelly O’Brien (19 points, 10 rebounds) led Mater Dei (4-1). The Monarchs play St. Joseph today at 6:45 p.m. for fifth place.

In a nonleague game:

Edison 64, Costa Mesa 34--Krisden Tanabe scored 25 points and had 12 rebounds and Wendy Sandstedt added 25 points and eight rebounds to lead the Chargers (4-1) at Costa Mesa.
