Prep Basketball Roundup : Servite Is Right on the Mark : Friars Hit 86% From Floor in Win

Unranked Servite High School hit 86% (24 of 28) of its shots from the field and rallied in the second half to upset No. 7 Westminster, 74-70, Tuesday in a boys’ nonconference basketball game at Servite.

Chris Tower scored 30 points in the first half as Westminster (3-5) opened a 43-38 lead. But Steve and Nick Marusich teamed up to hold Tower (41 points) to 11 in the second half.

Brian Kenney led Servite (7-3) with 24 points and Nick Marusich had 17. Each was 6 of 7 from the field. Kenney was 12 of 14 from the free-throw line.

In the Mid-Pacific tournament:

Los Alamitos 83, La Quinta 63--Dre Lamoureux, the tournament’s most valuable player, scored 31 points and had 15 rebounds to lead the Griffins (6-4) to the tournament championship in Honolulu. Scott Campbell scored 21 points for the Aztecs (7-3).

In the Carson City tournament:

Foothill 62, Carson City 58--Greg Rieber had 22 points and 8 rebounds to lead the Knights (6-1) in the semifinals.

In the San Dieguito tournament:

Las Vegas 66, Newport Harbor 52--Jim Geerling scored 14 points for Newport Harbor (7-3) in the consolation championship.

Troy 52, Valencia 48--Tim Morris, Jim Bridges and Jeff Holland each scored 10 points for the Warriors (6-3).

In girls’ basketball:

In the Bolsa Grande tournament:

Estancia 52, Rancho Alamitos 37--Shawna Newbern scored 13 points and was selected the tournament’s most valuable player in leading the Eagles to the championship.

Newport Harbor 70, Bolsa Grande 35--Jennifer Hamilton scored 24 points and Chantel Deford made 5 of 6 three-point shots for 15 points to lead the Sailors in the third-place game.

Santa Ana 43, Sunny Hills 36--Mona Martinez scored 20 points for Santa Ana in the consolation championship.
