Prep Basketball : Freshman Parks Leads Marina, 73-54

Freshman Cherokee Parks scored 21 points and had 13 rebounds to lead the Marina High School boys’ basketball team to a 73-54 nonleague victory over Long Beach Jordan Monday night at Long Beach.

Steve Guild (18 points, 14 rebounds) and David Yamate (14 points) helped the Vikings (11-3), who outscored Long Beach Jordan, 23-13, in the first quarter.

In other nonleague games:

Sunny Hills 67, El Dorado 48--The Lancers, who opened a 19-8 first-quarter lead, were led by forward Brian McCloskey with a game-high 18 points and 15 rebounds.

Chris Drakos added 15 points and 14 rebounds and Marcus Hopkins had 13 points for the Lancers (10-1).

Mike Brooks (11 points) and Chris Facione (10 points) led El Dorado.

Brea-Olinda 73, El Modena 52--Matt Chamberlain scored 23 points and Keith Walker added 17 points and 5 assists to lead the Wildcats (7-5) at Brea.

Ramsey Rycraw scored 17 points for El Modena (6-7).

Glendale 67, Huntington Beach 65--The Oilers missed the last shot with two seconds remaining at Huntington Beach. Andy Thompson scored 15 points and Jeff Long and Brandon Lott scored 14 each for Huntington Beach (6-8).

Irvine 71, Los Alamitos 61--Los Alamitos was ahead by two (31-29) at the half, but in the second half, Irvine shot 22 of 22 from the foul line, and the Griffins shot only 1 of 5.

David Ballanyne and Raphael Molle each scored 15 to lead the Vaqueros (6-6) at Irvine. Brett Pagett scored 17 points, had 10 rebounds and 9 assists to lead Los Alamitos (9-6).

In nonleague girls’ games:

Fountain Valley 80, Long Beach Poly 78 (OT)--Yvette Ybarra made the winning basket with three seconds remaining in overtime to lift the Barons (8-6) at Fountain Valley.

Santa Ana Valley 45, Westminster 43 (OT)--Maria Guerrero, who finished with 12 points, scored 4 points in overtime to give the Falcons (5-6) the victory at Westminster.
