Garden Grove League : Small Scores 39 for Bolsa Grande

Senior Joe Small scored a season-high 39 points, 27 in the second half, to lead Bolsa Grande High School to a 71-67 victory over La Quinta Friday in a Garden Grove League boys’ basketball game at Bolsa Grande.

La Quinta led, 38-30, at halftime but Small, a 6-foot 2-inch guard, scored 17 points in the third quarter as Bolsa Grande outscored La Quinta, 21-14.

Small had 10 in the fourth quarter as Bolsa Grande outscored La Quinta (0-2, 7-5), 20-15. Scott Campbell had 24 for La Quinta, and Ari Buford had 21.

Bolsa Grande is 3-9 overall and 2-0 in league and La Quinta is 7-5, 0-2.

In other Garden Grove League games:

Pacifica 56, Garden Grove 47--The score was tied at halftime, 23-23, but host Pacifica went to a full-court press to start the third quarter and went on a 7-0 run and led, 41-34, at the end of three quarters.

Dustin Bonham led Pacific with 16 points and Victor Ledesma added 13 for Pacifica (3-6, 1-1). Isidro Maldonado scored 15 for Garden Grove (1-7, 0-2)

Rancho Alamitos 58, Los Amigos 56--Brian Moore’s free throw with one second remaining clinched the victory for the host Vaqueros as J.J. Jenkins’ desperation shot at the buzzer missed. Mike Pavelec scored 17 points and had 11 rebounds to lead Rancho Alamitos (3-6, 2-0). Eddie Rivera and Mike Willey added 12 points each and Willey had 10 rebounds. Carlos Palomino scored 15 points and Jenkins 13 for Los Amigos (4-6, 1-1).

Kennedy 83, Santiago 36--The Irish (6-5, 2-0) outscored the Cavaliers, 27-2, in the first quarter and were never challenged. Mike Williams scored 17 points, Jim Barker 14 and Maurice Keith 12 for Kennedy. Santiago was led by Nguyen Ta, who scored nine points.
