Empire League : Los Alamitos’ Defense Does In Cypress

Greg Parkinson scored 21 points and Greg Reyes 18 to lead Los Alamitos High School to an 85-55 Empire League victory over Cypress Friday night at Cypress.

The Griffins took a 29-16 first-quarter lead and were never challenged.

“We played some tenacious defense and that got us out in front early,” Coach Steve Brooks said.

Tony Ware had 16 points and a game-high 13 rebounds for Los Alamitos (10-6 overall, 1-0 in league). Greg Bedford scored 19 points for the Centurions (3-11, 0-1).

El Dorado 70, Esperanza 62--The host Hawks (8-5, 1-0) had four players score in double figures, led by Chris Facione’s 21. Charlie Stevens had 15 points and Mike Renuad and Matt Luke scored 13 each.

Rob Nay scored 18 points for the Aztecs and Matt Werner 15.

Katella 47, Loara 36--Jerry Babe scored 14 points and senior forward Ian Donnelly added 13 to lead defending league champion Katella (4-9, 0-1) at Loara.

Katella led, 14-12, at halftime and 29-24 at the end of three quarters.

Tes Whitlock scored 12 points and Ted Bucanan added 10 points and 11 rebounds for Loara (4-8, 0-1).
