Girls’ Basketball : Notre Dame Can’t Catch Bell-Jeff as Missed Shot Leaves the Guards Up

Denise Dacorsi of Notre Dame High missed an eight-foot jump shot with three seconds to play as Bell-Jeff held on to win a San Fernando Valley League game, 54-53, at home Wednesday.

Nacorsi, who finished with 10 points and 8 assists, made a basket with 15 seconds remaining to bring Notre Dame (6-7, 1-2) to within a point, and the Knights regained possession moments later on a jump ball, setting up Nacorsi’s last shot.

Andrea Banducci had a game-high 24 points and also grabbed 12 rebounds for Notre Dame.

Carlyn Couch led Bell-Jeff (11-8, 3-0) with 15 points and teammate Lisa Negrette added 14.

Reseda 65, Canoga Park 36--Sharlene Cirrito scored 16 points and Cheryl Hightower added 14 to lead the visiting Regents in a West Valley League game.

Reseda, the defending City Section 3-A champion, led, 20-7, at the end of the first quarter and 43-17 at halftime. The Regents are 9-1 overall and 2-0 in league.

El Camino Real 73, Cleveland 41--Kerri Marshall scored 31 points and grabbed 14 rebounds to lead El Camino Real in a Valley League game at home. Marshall, a 5-8 senior forward, made 13 of 24 field-goal attempts and 5 of 6 free throws. Teammate Melissa Guidi added 12 points for El Camino Real. Dawn Stewart scored 22 points for Cleveland.

Sylmar 35, Hollywood 34--Dina Vanden Broeder scored the winning basket with a minute remaining in the Pac-6 League game at Sylmar.

Kelly Smith had game-high totals of 17 points and 16 rebounds for Sylmar.

Monroe 56, Verdugo Hills 26--Annette Robinson led Monroe (4-5, 2-0) with 23 points in the Pac-6League game at Verdugo Hills.
