Anderson Paces Point Loma, 69-44

Shannon Anderson’s 20 points and 10 rebounds led four starters who scored in double figures as Point Loma Nazarene College defeated Christ College of Irvine, 69-44, in a Golden State Athletic Conference game at Irvine Tuesday.

Point Loma (12-5 overall and 2-0 in conference) led, 33-18, at halftime.

Ann Duffy had 12 points and 5 assists, Laura Mars 12 points and Shelly Stokes 10 points for Point Loma.

Jane Gilpin, University of San Diego senior forward, was named the West Coast Athletic Conference’s player of the week.

Gilpin scored a team-high 16 points in each of USD’s first two conference games--a 60-56 victory over Loyola Marymount and a 62-60 overtime victory against Pepperdine.

Gilpin shot 61.9% from the field for the two games and had 8 assists and 4 steals.

Dave Kirksey scored 22 points as Christian Heritage defeated Master’s College, 65-57, in an NAIA District III mens’ basketball game Tuesday night at Newhall.

Master’s (7-11) closed to 55-52 with 1:42 to play. Kirksey proceeded to make 4 of 5 free throws to widen the margin. Christian Heritage outshot Master’s, 31-7, at the free-throw line.

Dwayne Burton added 17 for Christian Heritage (8-10) and Mark Kraatz had 10. Phil Hahn had 14 points for Masters.
