Century League Basketball : Joyce Leads Santa Ana Past Santa Ana Valley

Senior forward Bobby Joyce scored a game-high 24 points and also had 20 rebounds to lead Santa Ana High School to an 80-63 victory over Santa Ana Valley Friday in a Century League boys’ basketball game at Santa Ana.

Senior point guard Scootie Lynwood had 12 points and 15 assists for Santa Ana (4-0, 17-3), which is ranked second in the Orange County Sportswriters Assn. poll.

Leo Leon scored 13, Willie Lane 16 and Oscar Wilson 11 as all Santa Ana starters scored in double figures.

Jason Daughan and Brett Bennett scored 14 each for Santa Ana Valley (2-2, 10-8).

Santa Ana is leading the league, a game ahead of Foothill.

Canyon 64, Villa Park 35--The host Comanches (8-10, 1-3) took a 19-4 first-quarter lead en route to the victory. Ralph Pacheco had 10 points, 8 assists and 7 steals for Canyon. Roger Branstine scored eight points for the Spartans (1-14, 0-4).

Foothill 67, El Modena 53--The Knights (10-6, 3-1) jumped to a 22-8 lead and were never challenged at El Modena. Greg Rieber scored 20 points and Dan Abel 19 for Foothill. Brian Bullock had 18 points for the Vanguards (8-9, 2-2).
