Prep Soccer : Poe Leads Laguna Beach, 3-0

Jeff Poe of Laguna Beach High School scored three goals in the Artists’ 3-0 victory over Laguna Hills in a boys’ Pacific Coast League soccer match Monday. Host Laguna Beach (14-1-1, 8-0-1) remains in first place in the Pacific Coast League. Laguna Hills is 4-3-2 in league.

Poe, a senior forward who leads the Artists in scoring with 11 goals this season, scored twice in the first half. Goalie Eric Miranda had nine saves for Laguna Beach.

In another Pacific Coast League match:

Woodbridge 5, Costa Mesa 1--The Warriors, after taking a 1-0 halftime lead, scored four second-half goals at Costa Mesa. Oliver Cathey scored in the first half, and teammates Adrian Wolf, Dave Galasa, Matt West and John Ray scored in the second half for Woodbridge (6-7-1, 4-5-0). Warrior goalie Mike Goodman had nine saves.

Matt Martinez scored in the second half for Costa Mesa.

In the Garden Grove League:

Kennedy 3, La Quinta 2--Sophomore Kyong Kim scored an unassisted goal seven minutes into the game and a minute later Diego Abbes scored on a penalty kick for host Kennedy (10-2-3, 7-0-1). Jerry Libell scored midway through the first half to give the league-leading Fighting Irish a 3-0 halftime lead.

Chuck Woo scored two second-half goals for La Quinta (4-3-1 in league).

Bolsa Grande 3, Garden Grove 0--Craig McWhirter scored two goals for host Bolsa Grande (5-4-4, 4-1-3) and teammate Juan Duarte added another. Garden Grove is 2-3-3 in league.
