Girls’ Basketball : Thousand Oaks’ Streak Hits 15; Tanner Scores 27

First-place Thousand Oaks met last-place Westlake in a Marmonte League game at Westlake on Friday night, and the outcome was predictable.

Thousand Oaks (22-3, 11-0 in league play) rolled unchallenged to its 15th consecutive win with a 75-37 battering of the Warriors.

Senior center Barbara Tanner scored a season-high 27 points and set a school single-season scoring record with 389 points. Tanner is averaging 16 points a game. Kris Pederson, the Lancers’ all-time career scorer, added 15 points.

Dani O’Byrne led Westlake (0-10 in league play) with 18 points.

Newbury Park 71, Channel Islands 51--The Panthers used a full-court zone press and a fast-break offense to control the Marmonte League game from the outset.

Newbury Park (16-4, 8-2) shot poorly (34.3%) from the field but made 23 of 28 free throws, including 12 of 12 in the second half.

Marlo Cormier and Camille Mitchell led the Panthers with 19 and 18 points. Mitchell also had a team-high 11 rebounds.

Ytteb Bowls had game-high totals of 24 points and 20 rebounds for Channel Islands (3-7 in league play).

Camarillo 68, Simi Valley 51--Nichole Victoria scored a game-high 25 points, one of three Camarillo players to score in double figures, as the host Scorpions clinched a playoff spot from the Marmonte League.

Camarillo’s Julie Piantek scored 14 points and had seven assists and Angie Long added 11 points, pulled down 7 rebounds and had 9 steals. Camarillo improved to 12-7, 7-3. Simi Valley dropped to 4-7 in league play.
