Curiosity About Fire Kills Man

Share

A man who was trying to get a better view of a nearby fire was killed early today when he fell from the roof of a three-story Hollywood-area apartment building, police said. The man, who was not identified, “got too close to the edge and fell off,” police Lt. Barry Morrison said.

The man, believed to be about 45, lived a block east of an apartment construction site in the 1800 block of North Normandie Avenue where a fire broke out about midnight. The fire damaged several other apartment buildings as flames leaped as high as 100 feet in the air, fire spokesman Greg Acevedo said. Residents were evacuated from one nearby apartment building, police said. The American Red Cross found temporary shelter for 30 to 50 people displaced by the blaze, according to spokesman Ralph Wright.
