Roundup : Estancia Rallies for 64-58 Win

Augustine Heredia and Osmond Campos combined for 16 fourth-quarter points to lead Estancia High School to a 64-58 Sea View League victory over University Wednesday at Estancia.

Estancia (15-11, 4-5) trailed by five, 46-41, after three quarters. But with Heredia and Campos each scoring eight points in the fourth, Estancia outscored University, 23-12, for the victory. Campos, who finished with 11 points, made two three-pointers in the fourth. Heredia made six straight free throws in the fourth.

The victory, coupled with Corona del Mar’s loss to Tustin, gives Estancia sole possession of third place.

Center Chris Rupsa led Estancia with 22 points. University was led by Dave Warren, who had a game-high 29 points.

In other Sea View League games:

Tustin 70, Corona del Mar 58--Center Leo Parker scored 31 points, 26 in the first half to lead Tustin (20-4, 8-1) at home. Parker’s 31 was a season high and went along with 7 rebounds and 7 blocked shots. Dylan Steiler and Brad Cantrell added 11 points each for Tustin. Brain Spratt scored 28 points for Corona del Mar.

Saddleback 63, Newport Harbor 48--Junior Malru Dottin scored 17 points and had 10 rebounds and Gylan Dottin added 13 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists for host Saddleback (21-4, 8-1), which remained in a first-place tie with Tustin. Saddleback’s Craig Marshall had 10 points and 6 assists. Newport Harbor (13-11, 2-7) was led by Mike Nguyen with 12 points and Tyler Koon with 11.

In the Orange League:

Valencia 71, Anaheim 58--Led by Rudy Lopez’s 14 first-quarter points, Valencia outscored Anaheim, 25-14, in the opening quarter. Lopez, who made three three-pointers, finished with 22 points. Bernie James added 14 points and Mike Munoz 13 for Valencia. Marcus Mitchell’s 20 points led Anaheim (1-18, 0-9).

Savanna 69, Magnolia 48--Justin Paule, Bob Rivera, Tim Tillman and Joe Gallegos scored 10 points each for Savanna at Magnolia. Savanna led, 11-10, after the first quarter, and took control of the game in the second, when it outscored Magnolia, 24-5. Mike Goff’s 27 points led Magnolia.

Western 57, Brea-Olinda 45--The Wildcats (13-10, 6-3) jumped out to an 18-7 first-quarter lead, but host Western came back, outscoring the Wildcats, 16-8, in the second quarter, led by Joey Romero’s 8 points. Romero finished with 20 points, Chris Bowen scored 12 points and Wayne Hurtado added 11 for Western (13-8, 4-5).

In the Pacific Coast League:

Woodbridge 80, Orange 40--Adam Keefe scored 25 points to lead Woodbridge (17-5, 9-0) at Orange. Rob Lee and Robb Lee each scored nine points, each making three three-point shots. Mark Rodriguez scored 18 points for Orange, which is 1-8 in league.

Laguna Hills 63, Costa Mesa 50--Chris Sheff, a junior forward, scored 18 points to lead the Hawks at Costa Mesa.

Trabuco Hills 59, Laguna Beach 56--John Barnes and Rick Swanwick each scored 17 points to lead Trabuco Hills (13-10, 4-5) at home. Derek Blanton’s game-high 20 points led Laguna Beach.

In the Sunset League:

Marina 93, Huntington Beach 61--Marina outscored the Oilers, 26-14, in the first quarter and never relinquished its lead.

Fountain Valley 58, Westminster 53--Jim Borgquist led host Fountain Valley (14-6, 5-4) with 20 points and teammate Kevin Andersen scored 10 points and had 10 rebounds. Forward Mark Austin led Westminster (10-13, 2-7) with 15 points.

Ocean View 62, Edison 52--Craig Rice scored 24 points to lead Ocean View (14-7, 8-1) and Mike Frohn, who was 10 for 10 from the free-throw line in the second half, added 15 points.
