Canyon Names Rau as Football Coach

Bob Rau, who coached La Habra High School to four Freeway League football championships in his six years there, was named head coach at Canyon Wednesday.

He replaces Rod Hust, who resigned after guiding the Comanches to a 2-8 record last season.

Rau, a USC graduate, won four consecutive league championships at La Habra after he coached his team to a second-place finish in 1982. He would have had a fifth straight title last year had it not been for two forfeit defeats for using an ineligible player. Because of the forfeits, La Habra finished tied for second.

“It’s exciting to be part of a school like Canyon, which wants so much to improve its program,” Rau said. “Hopefully, we can bring the same kind of success to Canyon that we were able to bring to La Habra.”
