BASEBALL

Cal State Fullerton 22, The Master’s 4--Six Master’s pitchers gave up 21 hits in the nonconference game at Cal State Fullerton.

Master’s never led against Fullerton--an NCAA Division I team--which scored 8 runs on 7 hits in the sixth inning and 7 more in the eighth. The Mustangs had 12 hits and committed 2 errors.

Senior third baseman Tod Skinner was 3 for 5 and hit a run-scoring triple in the fifth inning for Master’s (3-4). The Mustangs’ Mark Boyle doubled home a run in the ninth and Jeff Lane double in the seventh.

Starter Jeff Hagy (1-2) suffered the loss. He was relieved by Kevin Taylor, one of two Master’s pitchers in the sixth inning. The Mustangs sent in two more pitchers, William Dube and David Black in the eighth inning. Fullerton improved to 7-6.

Mission College 7, College of the Desert 4--Kirk Wakefield allowed seven hits as he recorded Mission’s first win of the season in the losers’ bracket of a nonconference tournament at San Bernardino College.

Mission (1-7) was paced by Mike Masterson who was 3 for 4, scored twice and knocked in two runs.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

Southern Utah 90, The Master’s 73--Junior forward Phil Hahn scored a game-high 25 points and Rocky Shipes came off the bench to score 24 for Master’s in the nonconference game at Southern Utah.

Shipes also had 12 rebounds and Ted Grissom added 7 assists for the Mustangs (10-19).

Moorpark 79, Bakersfield 70--Tom Neumayr scored a game-high 16 points and David Bussey added 14 as Moorpark broke it open in the second half of its Western State Conference finale at Bakersfield.

Moorpark (15-13, 5-8 in conference play) converted 15 of 19 free throws in the second half.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

Moorpark 56, Bakersfield 53--Michele Brown made two key jump shots and converted two free throws in the final two minutes as Moorpark held off a late Bakersfield rally in the Western State Conference game at Bakersfield.

Moorpark (21-10) won the WSC title without losing a conference game. Bakersfield dropped to 19-8, 10-3.

Carol Kellick scored a game-high 18 points for Moorpark and Karina Hardman added 14 and Brown had 11.
