Rick Martin escaped an eighth-inning jam and pitched a scoreless ninth to earn a save as Rancho Santiago College defeated Cerritos, 6-5, in the championship game of the Casey Stengel baseball tournament Sunday at Cerritos.

Martin, a sophomore left-hander, entered the game in the bottom of the eighth with the bases loaded, two out, and Rancho Santiago ahead, 6-4.

He walked Todd Guggiana to force in a run but got Jose Millares to fly out to right to end the inning. Martin then retired Cerritos in order in the ninth to get his first save.
