A ‘Paneful’ Search Is On for a Solution

Share

Lucille Kelly of Palm Desert is looking for a Kelly Klozer (or similar device), which automatically closes sliding patio doors. Can you help with this open-and-shut case, or will Kelly wonder whether you’re just letting the matter slide, or, worse yet, have closed your mind to it?

Mona Britt of Los Angeles is in need of a book that shows you how to use a typewriter to make pictures. Can you help Britt get the picture, or will she never win any ribbons because she’s just not the type?

Elizabeth Perreault of Hollywood is after something other than rubber to protect the tip of her cane ; the rubber tip slips when the sidewalks are wet, she says. Can you come up with a useful tip before Perreault becomes a fall guy, or will she end up singing, “The rain, it’s plain, keeps giving me much pain”?

Reader-to Reader-Help Line: Janina at (213) 395-0548 needs a Sunbeam Electric frying pan, Model SML-B; this discontinued item is about 12 inches square, with a high dome and a stainless steel interior and exterior. Please turn around and help instead of being a square, otherwise Janina might have to “steal” one. . . . Mary at (805) 683-3197 is looking for the Bobbsey Twins game (not the books), which was popular about 30 years ago. Please help, so Mary won’t think the game is up.

Note: The Reader-to-Reader Help Line is only for one-time items or for products no longer available in stores. And you must give us written permission to publish your telephone number, so that others may contact you directly.

For Mary Jo Stirling of Pacific Palisades, who was looking for someone to put satin corners on a down comforter, we have a note of comfort. Mrs. A. Disney of Rancho Mirage says that Russell Quilt Co., (213) 691-3005, can do the work.

We have had many requests lately for discontinued and difficult-to-find kitchen items, such as pot handles, pans and attachments. A good source for these is Phyllis Stevenson of the Don Stevenson Co., 2727 E. Dutch Ave., Anaheim, Calif. 92806, telephone (714) 630-0706.

For Geneva Cropper of Long Beach, who needed someone to repair an antique German china clock, we have some timely help. Lou Ellen Tomlinson says Mr. Goujon, 901 S. Pacific Coast Highway, Redondo Beach, is the best at repairing old clocks. Dorye Roettger calls Hyman Braverman, (818) 994-4599, a “genius with old clocks,” but it’s his hobby, and he works on clocks only as his limited time permits. Dave’s Antiques at 10867 Balboa Blvd., Granada Hills, (818) 366-1231, is another good source, we’ve been told.

Herb Hain cannot answer mail personally but will, space permitting, respond in this column to readers who need--or have--helpful information. Write (do not telephone) to You Can Help!, You section, the Times, Times Mirror Square, Los Angeles 90053.
