THE COLLEGES : Community College Roundup : Rancho Santiago Wins in Softball

Dawn Robertson threw a two-hit shutout as Rancho Santiago College defeated Orange Coast, 3-0, Friday in an Orange Empire Conference softball game at Orange Coast.

Robertson (6-4) struck out five. Nanci Morelock had an RBI double in the sixth inning.

Rancho Santiago is 6-8 overall and 2-2 in conference. Orange Coast is 0-4 in conference.

In another Orange Empire Conference game:

Saddleback 2, Cypress 0--Patti Taylor had 15 strikeouts in pitching her fifth one-hitter of the season, and Saddleback (17-3, 4-0) moved into sole possession of first place.

In the South Coast Conference:

Cerritos 4, Golden West 3--Gina LoPicolo singled in a run with two out in the seventh to give host Cerritos (13-6, 2-1) the victory. Toni Barrett went 3 for 4 for Golden West (6-8, 2-2).

In Orange Empire Conference tennis:

Saddleback 9, Riverside 0--Ed Peregenio and Craig O’Shannessy teamed to defeat Mike Bennett and Yancy Dodson, 7-6, 6-1, in doubles play to lead the host Gauchos (8-1, 3-0).

In nonconference:

Orange Coast 5, Grossmont 4--The No. 2 doubles team of Eric Rebitzer and Peter Bull defeated Scott Del Mastro and Kirk Edwards, 6-3, 6-4, to give the host Pirates (8-0) the victory.
