Prep Baseball : Huntington Beach Goes 11 to Win Loara Tournament, 8-6

Villa Park High School, after losing a doubleheader to Mission Viejo earlier Saturday, made it three in a row, losing to Huntington Beach, 8-6, in 11 innings in the championship of the Loara tournament at Glover Stadium.
The Spartans (4-3) had scored four runs in the fifth to take a 5-3 lead.
The Oilers had chance to win in the seventh as they loaded the bases with one out, but relief pitcher Jerry Aschoff struck out Brad Walker and Chance Agnew. Agnew had hit a two-run homer in the sixth to tie the score, 5-5.
In other Loara tournament games:
Ocean View 11, Newbury Park 7--The Seahawks scored six runs in the fifth and again in the sixth to overcome a 5-2 deficit and win the third-place game at Glover Stadium. Mark Brenner went 3 for 3 with a triple and two RBIs and Gary Christopherson was 2 for 3 with a double and two RBIs for Ocean View (4-3).
Los Alamitos 6, Fountain Valley 2--Winston Wolf (2-0) struck out six in five innings to lead Los Alamitos (4-1) over Fountain Valley (3-2) in the consolation final at Glover Stadium.
El Dorado 10, Servite 4--An eight-run third inning lifted the Golden Hawks (6-1) to a victory in the fifth-place game at Servite.
San Clemente 10, Marina 7--The host Tritons had home runs from Mike Murphy and Rick Brail and pitcher Rocko Falaballa had seven strikeouts in a complete-game victory.
Kennedy 8, Anaheim 1--Kennedy scored three times in the fifth inning and four in the sixth to beat the Colonists at home.
Pacifica 6, Western 3--Todd Long (2-1) gave up four hits and did not allow an earned run in his 10-strikeout victory for visiting Pacifica (4-3).
Santiago 10, Loara 8--Loara (2-3) was ahead, 6-3, after six innings, but Santiago (2-3) scored seven runs in the seventh at Loara.
In the Newport Elks tournament:
Mater Dei 17, Foothill 1--Brian Frankel pitched a four-hitter as the Monarchs got 13 hits to win the championship game at Hart Park in Orange.
Tustin 1, Costa Mesa 0 (10 innings)--Ralph Grajeda (1-0) pitched three no-hit innings after taking over for starter Monte Jones, who had 10 strikeouts and two hits in seven innings, for the victory in the consolation championship game.
Saddleback 5, Woodbridge 1--Sean Therien of Saddleback (4-2) threw a four-hitter, striking out six and walking three, and went 2 for 4 to lead the Roadrunners over Woodbridge (1-4) at Newport Harbor High.
Santa Ana 6, Capistrano Valley 0--Santa Ana (3-1) backed winning pitcher Bob Reimers (2-0) with 10 hits to defeat Capistrano Valley (2-4).
In the El Segundo tournament:
Westminster 7, Banning 6 (16 innings)--Banning (3-2) had one-run leads in the top of the 11th, 15th and 16th innings, but each time Westminster (4-1) was able to come back and finally won the third-place game.
Esperanza 13, Arcadia 5--Greg Hauser hit a three-run home run and Jim Burchit drove in three runs as the Aztecs came from behind at home.
Brea-Olinda 5, Mayfair 0--Greg Kelly (1-1) had an 11-strikeout, two-hit shutout to lead Brea-Olinda (1-5) over Mayfair (0-5).
Edison 18, Long Beach Wilson 16--The Chargers (3-1) combined for 17 runs in the third and fourth innings to defeat Wilson.
In the Serra tournament:
Orange Lutheran 19, Morningside 0--Ward Lookabaugh and Mark Bredehoft combined on a two-hitter, and Ken Hughie and Rich Gress each drove in four runs as the Lancers (4-2) won their tournament opener at Morningside.
In nonleague play:
El Modena 7, Rancho Alamitos 0--Marcus Esposito pitched a no-hitter for the host Vanguards, who had three hits.
Mission Viejo 9-3, Villa Park 3-1--Eric Ekdahl hit a home run on the first pitch of the first game and Derek Gingerich followed with another to get the Diablos (4-0) started toward a doubleheader sweep of Villa Park.
Bolsa Grande 3, Rim of the World 2--Jerry Maldonado and Eric Schreifels combined for a seven-hitter at Bolsa Grande.
Canyon 1-5, Colton 2-2--John Cummings of Canyon (3-1) struck out 11 and gave up 2 hits and 2 runs in the opening-game loss. Marty Little (1-0) pitched a two-hitter to win the second game.
Dana Hills 10-12, Laguna Beach 0-10--The Dolphins scored four runs in the last two innings of the second game to sweep Laguna Beach. Dana Hills’ Chris Delfs went 3 for 4 with two home runs and three RBIs in the second game.
Liberty Christian 19-15, St. Margaret’s 7-11--Pitcher Chris Buckles (2-0) went 3 for 3 with two doubles, a home run and eight RBIs in the first game.
