College Spring Sports : CSUN Runs Up Big Numbers in 19-15 Win

Scott McIntyre hit two home runs and Zach Lundin pitched seven innings as Cal State Northridge defeated Metropolitan State (Colo.), 19-15, in a nonconference baseball game Thursday at Matador Field.

Northridge (11-19) followed Tuesday’s 17-hit performance against Chapman with 23 against the Roadrunners (11-6).

McIntyre keyed a seven-run first inning with his first home run of the season, a two-run shot to center.

By the end of seventh inning, the Matadors had extended their lead to 17-4. Metropolitan State rallied for 10 runs in the eighth behind a grand slam by Scott Dreman and a two-run homer by Torin Berge.

Geoff Curtis led off the home half of the eighth with his second home run and Gilmore extended his hitting streak to 17 games with his 10th homer to make the score, 19-14.

Lundin gave up four runs, five hits and struck out five.

In other baseball games:

The Master’s 15, Cal Lutheran 9--Every batter in the Mustang lineup got at least one hit and seven batters had two or more in an NAIA District III game at Master’s.

Senior David Mayr led Master’s five runs batted in on three hits. Jeff Holen also had three hits for Master’s (15-5, 6-5 in conference play).

Rio Hondo 3, Valley 2--With two out in the top of the 10th inning, Valley’s Tim DeGrasse hit a batter and surrendered consecutive singles to absorb the loss in the Southern California Conference game at Valley.

DeGrasse (1-5) gave up nine hits and struck out eight in 5 innings. He entered the game in relief of Steve Flattery in the fifth. Flattery allowed two hits, struck out two and walked three batters in 4 innings.

Danny Miner was 2 for 4 with a double and a triple and Sean Thompson was 2 for 5 for Valley (8-11-1, 5-2-1).

SOFTBALL

CS Northridge 6-5, Augustana (S.D.) 0-1--Northridge (21-9) pummeled the Augustana pitching staff for 23 hits in sweeping the nonconference doubleheader at Lady Matador Field.

Lisa Martin (8-1) pitched a three-hitter in the first game, striking out seven and walking two. She also went 3 for 4 with a run scored.

Though Delanee Anderson improved her record to 5-4, she struggled in the second game. Anderson surrendered nine hits in 6 innings before being relieved by Debbie Dickmann with the bases loaded in the seventh. Dickmann struck out the first batter she faced and got the second to line out.

MEN’S TENNIS

Pierce 9, Hancock 0--Bill Kearsley, Jonathan Holiday and Tony Cohen each won two sets to lead the Brahmas (12-0-1, 11-0) in a Western State Conference match at Pierce.
