Track Roundup : Fallbrook’s Noon Pushes Shotput Best to 62- 1/2

Brent Noon, a sophomore at Fallbrook High School, threw the shotput 62-feet 1/2-inch Thursday in a dual track meet against San Dieguito at Fallbrook.

The Fallbrook boys beat San Dieguito, 109-27. The San Dieguito girls won, 64-63.

Noon’s shotput mark bettered his previous best by 18 inches. Noon also threw 61-10 Thursday. He is the first sophomore to throw farther than 60 feet in San Diego County. Noon also won the discus with a throw of 169-10 but missed his personal best by 6 inches.

Fallbrook’s Greg Frinell won two events, the long jump (22-2) and high jump (6-0).

In other meets:

La Jolla 101, Coronado 33--Charles Huff won three events--the triple jump (47-5), the long jump (22-8 1/2) and the 100 meters (11.5 seconds)--and anchored the winning 440 relay team (44.9).

San Pasqual 89, Escondido 46--Ken Graves won the 120-yard high hurdles (15.4) and 330 low hurdles (41.1). Also for San Pasqual, Francis O’Neill won the mile (4:31.0) and Chris Nottoli won the 100 yards (10.2).

University City 76, Crawford 60--University City won the meet, but the best times were turned in by Crawford’s Goshu Tadese. He ran 4:27 in the mile to beat Jason Salber (4:33) Tadese also won the two-mile in 9:50 to beat Salber (9:53).

El Capitan 126, Grossmont 7--Aaron Murray won the discus (162-10), and his twin brother, Mike, was second (148-4) and won the high jump (6-2).

GIRLS

San Dieguito 64, Fallbrook 63--Kristina Hand won four events for the girls’ team, although all four were well off her best. Hand won the mile (5:24.9), the two-mile (12:04.6) and the 880 (2:30.2) and anchored the winning mile relay, which won in 4:14.1.

Crawford 83, University City 43--In a race that featured three top sprinters, Crawford’s Ony Ferguson won the 100 meters in 12.25. University City’s Angela Kimmey was second (12.48) and Crawford’s Shani Freeman was third (12.5).

Rancho Buena Vista 82, Oceanside 45--Kira Jorgensen took a break from her usual distance events because she will compete in the Pasadena Invitational Saturday, but she won the 400 (1:01.9) and 800 meters (2:23). Rancho Buena Vista junior Angie Jarret won the 100 meters (12.14) and 200 (26.9).
