George Brett, Kansas City third baseman, said he regrets smashing a reporter’s camera against a wall and offered to apologize to Tom Leathers, a Kansas City magazine publisher.
Leathers wrote about the incident this week in his publication, “The Squire’s Other Paper” after returning to Kansas City. According to Leathers and the Royals, Brett approached Leathers Saturday night as he was interviewing relief pitcher Dan Quisenberry at the Royals’ spring training complex in Haines City, Fla.
Apparently angered over something Leathers had written last year, Brett reportedly threw Leathers’ notebook into the trash, urged Quisenberry not to talk to the reporter and smashed the camera against a wall.
Brett has offered to pay for the camera.
