Share

The Daily Titan, the student newspaper at Cal State Fullerton, has been named top collegiate newspaper in the state by the California Intercollegiate Press Assn.

Daily Titan faculty adviser Jay Berman said the paper dominated both the on-the-spot and mail-in competitions sponsored by the press association. The association’s annual convention met earlier this month at USC. About 20 college newspapers competed for awards.

Daily Titan Executive Editor Shauna Snow won first place for on-the-spot news coverage, and former City Editor Bran Hanson took top honors in feature writing. Other first-place winners in on-the-spot competition are Managing Editor Larry Nista for page layout; former Executive Editor Joyce Garcia for copy editing, and Steve Parra for editorial cartoons.

In the mail-in competition, for which articles published during the past year were judged, former Daily Titan Executive Editor Stuart Dedic won first- and second-place trophies in investigative reporting. His winning story was about the case of a Cal State Fullerton professor accused of rigging an Academic Senate election.
