Par Earns Lopez a Win in Inamori Classic Shootout

Nancy Lopez made par on the fourth hole to win the LPGA Championship Shootout, part of the Inamori Classic, at the StoneRidge Country Club in Poway on Tuesday. Lopez won $5,000.

Ten golfers began on the 10th tee. Laura Davies was eliminated when she bogeyed the par-5 hole. Patty Sheehan bogeyed No. 11 and was eliminated, advancing eight to the next hole.

Lopez and Marta Figueras-Dotti both birdied the par-3 12th, advancing them to No. 13. Figueras-Dotti made par on that hole to win $2,000 for second place.

INDOOR SOCCER

The Sockers announced that they will host the opening games of the first round of the best-of-five Major Indoor Soccer League playoffs at the San Diego Sports Arena Thursday, April 21, and Saturday, April 23. Both games will be at 7:35 p.m. The first-place Sockers, who have clinched the home field advantage throughout the playoffs, will face the fourth-place finisher in the Western Division, currently the Tacoma Stars. Game 3 and Game 4, if necessary, will be played at the home of the fourth-place finisher. A fifth game, if necessary, will be played at the Sports Arena.

COLLEGE BASEBALL

Azusa Pacific swept a Golden State Athletic Conference doubleheader from visiting Point Loma Nazarene College. Azusa Pacific (24-8) won the first game, 5-4, and had 18 hits in a 13-1 second-game rout.

Azusa Pacific’s Javier Murillo was 3 for 5 with 2 RBIs in the second game.

Murillo was 2 for 3 with a solo homer in the first game. In that game, Tony Nobinsky was 2 for 4 and hit a solo home run for Point Loma Nazarene (8-22).

A balk scored one run and Gary Fessia stole home for the other as UC San Diego scored twice in the 11th inning and beat Biola, 8-7, in a nonconference game in La Mirada.

Starter Mike Morgan (4-1) gained the victory and Rich Tomolonis the save. Thad Ferre had three hits and Matt Bynum drove in two runs for UCSD (18-6).
