In another City Western game:

La Jolla 9, University of San Diego High School 6--Brent Woodall went the distance and was 3 for 4 with a run scored to lead No. 8 La Jolla (11-3, 3-0) at USDHS (5-6, 1-2).

GROSSMONT LEAGUE

Helix 2, El Cajon Valley 0--Rick Navarro (6-0) allowed only 1 hit--Chris Holder’s bloop single in the first--and had 11 strikeouts for No. 7 Helix (9-2, 2-0). Navarro has 68 strikeouts in 44 innings. Jack Kalwpalug allowed only four hits for El Cajon Valley (4-8, 0-3).

Santana 17, Valhalla 0-- Darrin Forster hit two of his team’s four home runs as Jeff Matranga (5-0) cruised to the victory. Kyle Sebach and Eric Dietrach also homered for Santana (11-3, 2-1). Valhalla is 5-9 and 1-2.

Mt. Miguel 8, El Capitan 7--El Capitan (6-5, 1-2) had the tying run at third base and the winning run at first with two outs in the seventh when reliever David Simms induced Zak Salmon to pop up. Mt. Miguel is 2-9-1 and 1-1.

CENTRAL LEAGUE

Crawford 16, Christian 3--Jeff Thrift had 4 hits, 4 runs scored and 4 RBIs, and winning pitcher Jeff Wilcox (4-3) had 3 RBIs for Crawford (8-5, 3-0). Christian is 0-10 and 0-3.

Lincoln 9, St. Augustine 2--Brendon Franklin hit a two-run home run and Daniel Hernandez gained his first victory in five decisions for Lincoln (2-9, 1-2). The Saints are 4-7 and 1-2.

METRO CONFERENCE

Chula Vista 3, Hilltop 1--Joe Heinz drove in two runs and Anthony Garcia gained the victory for Chula Vista (4-9, 1-0). Hilltop is 1-8 and 0-1.

Castle Park 5, Sweetwater 1--Juan Beltran (5-1) went the distance for No. 6 Castle Park (13-2-1, 1-0). Beltran also had a run-scoring double. Teammate Mike Vallarelli had two triples and three RBIs. Sweetwater is 7-7-1 and 0-1.

Montgomery 15, Mar Vista 7--David Schmidt, Miguel Perez, Arturo Golembiewski and Felipe Rodriguez each hit homers for Montgomery (7-3, 1-0). Mar Vista is 3-10 and 0-1.

Marian 4, Southwest 3--Brandon Hayes had a two-run triple and pitcher Leo Ortiz (1-3) went the distance for Marian (3-8-1, 1-0). Southwest is 1-10 and 0-1.

EASTERN LEAGUE

Madison 7, Serra 6--Albert Mendiola hit a liner over the center fielder’s head and came around to score for an inside-the-park home run that lifted No. 2 Madison (14-1, 3-0). Buzz Brown also had a home run for Madison. Serra is 4-9 and 0-3.

Mira Mesa 14, Patrick Henry 0--Travis Arnold allowed only one hit, Eric Sealey hit a two-run homer and host Patrick Henry (5-7, 0-3) committed six errors. No. 9 Mira Mesa is 10-3 and 2-1.

NONLEAGUE

Fallbrook 8, Nevada Carson City 5--Winning pitcher Jeff Lawrence hit a grand slam and Cory Conrad had a two-run homer for Fallbrook (8-4).

Coronado 10, Bonita Vista 4--Coronado’s Bob Watson was 2 for 4 with a double and 3 RBIs and went the distance for the win.
