Top National Runners in Arcadia Track Meet

Share

The Arcadia Invitational, long considered the top track meet on the West Coast, becomes a nationwide affair for the first time in 21 years today, when it is held at Arcadia High School. Field events start at 4 p.m. with the first race at 6:15.

A normally good meet because of the usual amount of local talent, the meet should be even better because of some out-of-area athletes. The lineup includes:

South Oak Cliff of Dallas, the No. 1 boys’ team in the nation in the 400 and 1,600 relays, with times of 40.51 and 3:11.5; Tilden of Brooklyn, N.Y., which set a national record in the girls’ 4 x 200 relay at the National Indoor Championships March 13; and Laurie Gomez of Youngstown, Ohio, a 10:28 two-miler who will double in the mile run and two-mile run against Kira Jorgensen of Vista of the San Diego Section.
