Notre Dame 7, El Segundo 4--Notre Dame rallied for four runs in the top of the eighth inning in a second-round game at Redondo High.

El Segundo (10-6) loaded the bases on consecutive walks to open its half of the eighth, but the Eagles managed only one run against reliever Rob Kostenbader. Steve Sutherland struck out, Dave Lubs grounded into a fielder’s choice to score a run and Erik Evans flied out to end the game.

Jeff Antoon led off the eighth for Notre Dame (11-4) with a home run to left field. Kevin Milligan later delivered a two-run double and Kevin Crosby capped the uprising with an RBI single. Bob Hughes (1-0) picked up the win in relief despite walking the bases loaded in the eighth.

Right-hander Heath Jones (2-3) pitched a complete game for El Segundo.

Joe Montanez was 2 for 3 with three RBIs to lead the Eagles. He hit a two-run single in the fourth and tied the score, 3-3, with an RBI single in the sixth.

Alemany 7, North Torrance 3--Pinch-hitter Brian Swanson hit a two-run double in the sixth to cap a four-run Alemany rally in the second-round consolation-bracket game.

With the score tied, 3-3, Mike Sims doubled home a run before Swanson hit the double. Bill Horvat knocked in the final run with a sacrifice fly.

Horvat picked up his first RBI of the game on a first-inning sacrifice fly that scored Greg Biley, who hit a leadoff triple. Mike Scott also tripled for the Indians (10-6) to knock in a run in the fourth.

John Lite (2-0) went the distance in his first start of the season. He gave up five of North Torrance’s six hits in the third when the Saxons scored all three runs.

Leuzinger 9, Royal 6--Bill Egan hammered a three-run homer in the seventh, but it wasn’t enough to keep Royal from losing the second-round game. Egan also had an RBI single in the third and was 2 for 4.

Sean Sullivan knocked in Royal’s other two runs with a second-inning single.

Eric Spellman (1-2) went the distance for Royal (9-7), allowing 12 hits and six earned runs. Spellman struck out six and walked four.

Crespi 8, University 7--Crespi rallied for five runs in the top of the seventh and held off a University rally in the bottom of the inning in the second-round consolation-bracket game.

Mark D’Antonio walked with the bases loaded to drive in Crespi’s first run in the seventh, and John Dempsey’s sacrifice fly added another run, pulling the Celts within 6-5. Mark Cavaretta then unloaded a three-run homer, his second home run this season.

Crespi (6-8) got excellent relief pitching from Dempsey and Chad Nichols. Nichols came on in the fourth and hurled 1 innings of hitless ball, striking out five. Dempsey relieved Nichols in the fifth and went the final 2 innings, allowing two hits and one run to earn the victory.

Dempsey (1-2) gave up a leadoff homer in the seventh and University had runners on second and third with two outs, but the Crespi hurler struck out the final batter.

Cerritos 7, Thousand Oaks 6--Thousand Oaks rallied for five runs in the seventh inning but came up short in the second-round game.

Thousand Oaks (8-5-1) was held to two hits--a third-inning single by Brian Higgins and a seventh-inning single by Mike Yanuzzi.

Thousand Oaks loaded the bases in the seventh on two walks and a hit batsman before Yanuzzi drove in two runs with his single. A fielder’s choice knocked in another run, and Thousand Oaks got two more runs on a pair of Cerritos errors.
