One is Lynwood’s Trise Jackson, California state player of the year.

Two other all-state players are Sharon Hargrove of Compton and Bolivia Estrada-Gaytan of Dominguez.

The 10 players making All-South Coast were selected primarily from a poll of area coaches.

Commenting on players from an all-opponent view, the coaches came up with these raves for this year’s All-South Coast girls:

Angela Clark, Lakewood High: “A fine floor leader with a deadly shot.”

Neysa Dunnings, Regina Caeli High: “It’s a pleasure to watch her go for the rebounds.”

Estrada-Gaytan: “A tower of talent at 6-4 and she’ll dominate the play. One of the very best, I’d say.”

Hargrove: “A great all-around player.”

Jackson: “Her speed, ball-handling, shooting--they all add up to why she was picked No. 1.”

De De Mosman, St. Joseph: “An excellent shooter, and can she hit those three-pointers!”

Euphemia Neely, Long Beach Poly: “Look out for her, she’ll drive right in from either right or left.”

Iesha Smith, Artesia: “Wow, and only a sophomore!”

Margaret Stewart, Lakewood: “Plays powerful and knows what to do with the ball.”

Linda Watson, Lynwood: “The best sophomore I’ve seen, and watch her leap!”

Clark, Estrada-Gaytan, Hargrove, Jackson, Mosman, Neely and Stewart are high school seniors and appear to be headed for play in the college big time.

California State University, Long Beach, reportedly has signed Jackson and Hargrove. USC reportedly has Estrada-Gaytan’s signature. UCLA, USC and Arizona State have their eyes on Mosman. USC, Oregon and the University of San Diego are after Clark. Neely has the interest of Oregon State. And Stewart appears headed for Army to play basketball on the Lady Knight team at West Point.

Half of the 1988 all-stars are repeaters for The Times’ honor. Estrada-Gaytan, Hargrove, Jackson, Mosman and Neely each earned all-star in 1987 as juniors.
