UC Irvine’s Jeff Haack Tames CS Long Beach, 7-2

UC Irvine’s Jeff Haack pitched his third complete game of the season, leading the Anteaters to a 7-2 Pacific Coast Athletic Assn. victory over Cal State Long Beach Saturday at Irvine.
Haack (3-6), a sophomore left-hander, struck out a career-high 10 batters and gave up just 4 hits, none after the fourth inning.
Long Beach took a 2-0 lead with runs in the first and fourth innings. Irvine came back with three runs in both the fifth and sixth innings.
Irvine’s John Seeburger was 2 for 5 with 3 RBIs, and teammate Tracy Shananan’s single to center field in the sixth drove in a pair of runs.
The victory was Irvine’s sixth straight over the 49ers. The Anteaters are 26-20-1 overall and 5-6 in PCAA play.
Pitcher Chad Holmes took the loss for Long Beach (11-35, 1-10), giving up 12 hits in 6 innings.
