ROTTERDAM, Netherlands —
Belayenh Dinsimo of Ethiopia set a world record in the marathon Sunday, covering the 26 miles 385 yards in 2 hours 6 minutes 49 seconds.
Densimo, 31, bettered a 3-year-old record set by Carlos Lopes of Portugal, who covered the distance in 2:07:12 on April 14, 1985, in the same race in this Dutch port city.
Densimo had shared the lead with Ahmed Saleh from Djibouti until the last 1 miles. Saleh finished in 2:07:07.
