Laguna Hills Names Bresnahan Coach

Steve Bresnahan has been named Laguna Hills High School’s football coach, principal Tony Feruzzo said Monday.

Bresnahan replaces Paul Weinberger, who resigned in January. Laguna Hills was 3-7 last season, but the Hawks had to forfeit their three victories because they uses an ineligible player.

“I’m looking forward to the challenge of coaching on the high school level again,” said Bresnahan, who has been an assistant at Cal State Long Beach the past four seasons. “The situation (at Laguna Hills) has not been as successful as the people at the school and the community would have liked. But I think things will work out great.”

Before coaching at Long Beach, Bresnahan, 38, won two Moore League co-championships in four seasons at Lakewood High School. He also coached at San Joaquin in Fresno and was an assistant at El Rancho and Morro Bay.

“Steve had a considerable amount of success at Lakewood and had some high recommendations from people at that school,” Feruzzo said.

Bresnahan will not begin teaching physical education at Laguna Hills until next fall. He will start working with the football program in May, after his teaching contract at Long Beach expires.

“We are extremely happy that Steve is able to work that out,” Feruzzo said. “. . . We were looking at the long term. But, it definitely helps.”
