Prep Roundup : Chambrone Leads Tustin Over Saddleback in Softball

Chabele Chambrone had three hits, including a three-run home run in the second inning, to lead Tustin High School to a 10-1 victory over Saddleback in a Sea View League softball game Wednesday at Tustin.

Heather Dearden had four hits, scored two runs and had an RBI for Tustin. Jayme Ondracek (8-2) threw a four-hitter for Tustin (12-3, 9-0). Tustin has a one-game lead over University.

In another Sea View League softball game:

University 3, Newport Harbor 1--Shareen Patton struck out 14 and allowed 4 hits to lead University at Newport Harbor.

In South Coast League softball:

San Clemente 4, Capistrano Valley 1--Wendy Moon hit a two-run home run in the third inning to lead San Clemente (14-6, 4-1) at Capistrano Valley. Moon was 2 for 4 with 2 runs scored and 2 RBIs. Wendy Stewart was 2 for 3 and Michelle Shean 2 for 2 for San Clemente.

Mission Viejo 4, Irvine 0--Jenny Heydt (8-0) pitched a four-hitter to lead Mission Viejo (15-5, 4-1) at Irvine. Rene Pina was 3 for 4 with runs scored.

In South Coast League softball:

El Toro 4, Dana Hills 2--Jennifer Jourden threw a one-hitter and struck out three and second baseman T.J. Stoewsand singled and scored the winning run to lead El Toro (15-8). All six runs were unearned.

In nonleague softball:

Claremont-Garden Grove 14, South Bay Lutheran 1--Barbara Dolan’s two-run double in the seventh led Claremont-Garden Grove (4-2). Tracy Carmella (4-2) and Dolan combined on a no-hitter.

In Orange League golf:

Valencia 178, Magnolia 241--Valencia set a school record for a low nine-hole score at Dad Miller Golf Course in Anaheim. Senior J.B. Broms and sophomore Chris Tidland each shot one-under 34 for Valencia (18-0 overall), which won its 37th consecutive team match in the last three seasons.

In Pacific Coast League golf:

Laguna Beach 194, Woodbridge 218--John Gilles shot an even-par 32 at Aliso Creek Golf Course to lead Laguna Beach (12-3, 9-1).

In Orange League tennis:

Anaheim 11, Western 7--Anaheim’s No. 1 doubles team of Dean Nguyen and Jack Kuei swept their sets, 6-3, 6-1, 6-3, to lead Anaheim (13-1, 10-1) at Pearson Park.

Valencia 18, Magnolia 0--Colin Robinson and Eric Flint, Valencia’s No. 2 doubles team, swept, 6-0, 6-0, 6-0, for host Valencia (13-2, 10-0).

In Century League tennis:

Canyon 17, Santa Ana 1--Brad Mills swept his matches, 6-2, 6-0, 6-0, at Santa Ana to lead Canyon (16-0, 6-0).

In Empire League tennis:

El Dorado 15, Cypress 6--All three doubles teams swept for visiting El Dorado (9-3, 6-0).

In the Pacific Coast League:

Laguna Beach 14, Costa Mesa 4--Jonathan Leach swept his sets, 6-1, 6-0, 6-0, to improve to 44-0 and lead host Laguna Beach (11-5, 5-1). Leach, who defeated Justin Zillman, 7-5, when the teams met earlier this season at Costa Mesa, came back to defeat Zillman, 6-1, this time. John Rushing swept for Laguna Beach at No. 2 singles, 6-4, 6-1, 6-0. Laguna Beach’s No. 1 doubles team of John Young and Lee Kirner swept, 6-3, 6-0, 6-3.

In Freeway League boys’ swimming:

Sonora 110, Buena Park 62--Chad Feiler won the 100-yard butterfly and 100 backstroke and Brian Zeller won the 200 individual medley and the 500 freestyle to lead host Sonora.

In Freeway League girls’ swimming:

Sonora 126, Buena Park 4--Barbara Camacho won the 50- and 100-yard freestyle to lead host Sonora.

In Century League boys’ track:

El Modena 70, Santa Ana Valley 62--The meet came down to the mile relay and both teams finished with a mark of 3:32, but El Modena had a lean at the tape and won the meet.

In Empire League boys’ track:

Los Alamitos 73 1/2, Cypress 59 1/2--Dave Sanford went 1:59.7 to win the 880 and Greg Reyes high jumped 6-feet 6-inches to lead Los Alamitos (3-2) over visiting Cypress (2-3).

In Century League girls’ track:

Canyon 69, Foothill 58--Canyon improved to 5-0, led by Allison Franke, who won the discus (147-3), the long jump (17-8) and the 110 hurdles (15.7).

Santa Ana Valley 76, El Modena 51--Leslie Moyer of El Modena long jumped 16-feet 1/2-inch and ran the 220 in 26.7, but Santa Ana Valley won easily.

In Empire League boys’ track and field:

Katella 92, Loara 44--Katella’s Jay McGruder won the 100 and 220 meters and teammate Ian Donnelly high jumped 6-feet 4-inches. Loara sophomore Albert Avilia had a mark of 151-feet 9-inches in the discus.

In Empire League girls’ track and field:

Loara 73, Katella 53--Loara’s Melanie Madini won the 100 and 220 and anchored the winning 440 relay and the mile relay teams. Katella’s Martha Pinto won the mile and two-mile.

Los Alamitos 71, Cypress 56--Staci Carrington won the mile (5:35) and two-mile (11:52.8) to help Cypress (1-4) defeat Los Alamitos (2-3).

In Sunset League girls’ track:

Edison 86, Huntington Beach 41--Jamie Karrer won the 200 meters (26.7) and came in second in the 100 (12.7) to pace Edison.

In Garden Grove League volleyball:

Rancho Alamitos 3, Pacifica 0--Dave Fagel, Shawn Tangard and Rich Pearce had seven kills each to lead host Rancho Alamitos to a 15-11, 15-10, 15-12 sweep.

In the Sunset League:

Edison 3, Westminster 0--Mike Diehl had eight kills for host Edison (12-1, 6-1), which swept, 15-1, 15-9, 15-6.
