Simi Valley’s Sharts to Sign With Miami

Simi Valley High slugger Scott Sharts said he will sign a letter of intent with Miami (Fla.) this week.

Sharts, the Southern Section career home run leader with 31, chose Miami over Oklahoma State and Pepperdine. The first baseman also is eligible for the major league free-agent draft in June.

“I wanted to go to a place where I could play right away,” Sharts said. “And I felt it was time to make my decision.”

Sharts is batting .528 and has 14 home runs and 35 runs batted in this season. As a pitcher, the right-hander is 8-0 with a 1.27 earned-run average.
