High School Spring Sports : Poly Rambles to Track Title Behind Haas

Shannon Haas won three events as Poly dominated the East Valley League track finals Wednesday at Birmingham High.

Haas won the 400-meter run with a time of 49.5 seconds and also won the 100 (10.9) and 200 (23.3) meters.

Duke Jacobs won the 110 high hurdles (15.5) and the 300 intermediate hurdles (42.1) and Kelly Hernandez won the pole vault at 13 feet for Poly.

SOFTBALL

Thousand Oaks 2, Newbury Park 1--Diane Borck singled and scored on Marsha Bour’s groundout to lead the Lancers in a Marmonte League game at Newbury Park.

Borck had three hits for Thousand Oaks (18-6, 7-2 in league play), which moved to within a half-game of league-leading Newbury Park (8-2).

Notre Dame 3, Chaminade 2--Becca Berline pitched a two-hitter and struck out 12 to lead the Knights in the San Fernando Valley League game at Chaminade.

Dana Marasca was 2 for 4 with a double for Notre Dame (18-3, 6-1).

Bell-Jeff 6, Alemany 0--Stacey Smock pitched a three-hitter for the Guards in a San Fernando Valley League victory at Bell-Jeff.

Smock, Marlene Carr and Gloria Arancibia each had two hits for Bell-Jeff.

Moorpark 10, Oak Park 6--Denise Duarte had four hits and Nana Barrera had three for Moorpark (9-8, 5-5) in the Tri-Valley League game at Oak Park.

VOLLEYBALL

Granada Hills d. El Camino Real 15-5, 10-15, 15-6; 10-15, 15-6--Andy Farrow had 18 kills and Sam Goldman added 16 for the Highlanders in the West Valley League match at El Camino Real.

Kennedy d. Cleveland, 15-10, 15-9, 15-9--Scott Moss recorded nine kills for the Cougars (9-6, 7-5) in a West Valley League match at Cleveland.

Harvard d. Cathedral, 15-1, 15-3, 15-6--Ben Faucett had seven kills to lead the Saracens (14-2, 10-0) to their 39th Santa Fe League win in a row at Harvard.

Chaminade d. St. Genevieve, 15-8, 15-12, 15-5--Collin Smith’s 10 kills led the Eagles in a Santa Fe League match at Bradford Park.

GOLF

Del Rey League individual championships--Alemany’s David Berganio shot a two-day 139 on the par-71 Griffith Park golf course to win his fourth consecutive title. Loyola’s Chris Francis, Notre Dame’s Brendan O’Shaughnessy and St. Francis’ John Chung will join Berganio in the Southern Section championships Monday.
