High School Spring Sports : One Silverman Watches, Other Pitches as El Camino Real Romps, 20-1

The El Camino Real High softball team won two games Thursday against Canoga Park without former player of the year Beth Silverman throwing a pitch.

First, both coaches agreed to give the Conquistadores a victory for an April 19 game between the schools that was suspended because of rain in the fifth inning with El Camino Real leading by five runs.

Then, Silverman’s sophomore sister, Cari, threw a two-hit complete game as El Camino Real breezed to a 20-1 victory at Canoga Park. The wins assure the Conquistadores (16-4, 9-0 in league play) of at least a share of the West Valley League title.

“Her shoes are way too big for me,” Cari (3-0) said about the pressure she faces trying to live up to her sister’s reputation.

Canoga Park’s Lydia Herrera hit a run-scoring triple in the first inning for Canoga Park (5-13, 3-7).
